TUCSON, Ariz. — Medicine is increasingly embracing a whole-person model of care. Across specialties, healthcare, medical education, research and national health initiatives, there is greater emphasis on lifestyle, nutrition, mental and emotional health, prevention, community, relationships and other factors that influence health beyond the treatment of disease.

The University of Arizona has long been at the forefront of this evolution, serving as the home of the first academic integrative medicine center, established in 1994. To further this work across the University, the Spring 2027 Integrative Medicine Fellowship cohort is open to eligible University of Arizona faculty and staff at 50% of standard tuition.

For faculty and practitioners, the Fellowship provides an opportunity to develop expertise that can inform clinical practice, teaching, research, program development and the preparation of future practitioners.

The two-year, part-time Fellowship is designed to be completed alongside an active professional career. With the exception of three experiential CME weeks held in Tucson, the program is completed online. The curriculum explores the evidence, mechanisms of action and clinical applications of integrative approaches across major areas of health and medicine.

Fellows study nutrition and food as medicine, botanicals and dietary supplements, mind-body medicine, lifestyle and behavioral health, traditional healing systems, and integrative approaches to prevention and disease management. The curriculum also addresses emerging areas such as personalized medicine, psychedelic-assisted care, integrative cancer care, integrative pain management, perioperative care and other evolving topics in the field.

Fellows collaborate with colleagues across specialties and professions, receive individualized clinical mentorship from an integrative medicine physician and engage in hands-on learning while earning CME credit.

Eligibility

For the Spring 2027 Integrative Medicine Fellowship cohort begins on February 8, 2027. The 50% tuition rate is available to eligible applicants who hold a University of Arizona appointment or are employed by the University of Arizona, including University of Arizona-employed faculty, clinical faculty employed by Banner Health, academic professionals, postdoctoral scholars and staff.

The University of Arizona Integrative Medicine Fellowship is open to physicians (MD, DO), advanced practice registered nurses (APRN), physician assistants/physician associates (PA), pharmacists (PharmD), podiatrists (DPM), dentists (DDS/DMD) and other professionals holding a current medical license.
